Murrumbidgee to Googong M2G Pipeline Package
The Murrumbidgee to Googong (M2G) Water Transfer is designed to deliver improved security to the water supply for the ACT and region. It involves pumping water from the Murrumbidgee River within the ACT and transferring it via a pipeline to Burra Creek in NSW, from where it would flow for approximately 13km to the Googong Reservoir. The project crosses rural residential properties which require community liaison and strict environmental planning.
The project is for the installation, testing and commissioning of;
- 12000m of 1000m DICL RRJ pipeline
- 700m of 1000m MSCL pipeline.
To date Redline has lain almost 5 kilometres of 1000mm cement-lined ductile iron pipe in sometimes unforgiving ground. We now have two crews operating on separate fronts, the “East” crew tackling a challenging route running alongside and at times through Williamsdale Road, while the “West” crew traverses steep slopes closer to the Murrumbidgee end. The “East” crew has stepped up its production hours over the past few weeks in order to keep the road closure period necessary to the project as short as possible, minimizing impact on residents. Indeed in spite of sometimes difficult weather conditions, both crews have made significant inroads, whilst maintaining high safety standards and the Bulk Water Alliance is pleased with the progress being made .
This project brings a first in pipeline installation in Australia with 1m DICL pipe and completion due by the end of 2011.
